Curatorial Panel Discussion
May 03, 2007
Centers, contexts and curating: global perspectives The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) and the Ise Cultural Foundation are pleased to announce Centers, contexts and curating: global perspectives, a panel discussion by four curators from different parts of the world: Gary Dufour (Australia), Yukie Kamiya (New York/Japan), Antonia Majaca (Croatia), and Rita Palma (Portugal). Dufour, Palma, and Majaca are currently in residence at ISCP and Kamiya is a Guest Critic in the Program. The four curators will present their recent curatorial projects, emphasizing the possibilities for curatorial practice in their respective locations. Together they will discuss a myriad of issues that curators face no matter where they are working, from the responsibilities that come with power to ethnographic questions raised by curating internationally. The curators will also discuss how the role of the curator has changed with the emergence of biennials in the 1990s, and the subsequent shift towards the thematic exhibition. Touching on issues of curatorial mobility and artistic autonomy, the four panelists will also consider their individual relationships to the art market.
