Statement:

My artwork is almost exclusively process oriented. The molding actions being similar to working with clay: I roll the fiber into shapes before inserting them into the nylon stalkings, tying off each new node with string. It’s an addition process that subverts a synthetic, man-made material like nylon back into an organic form. The piece becomes an object that looks otherworldly, yet familiar––a thing that feel as if it it could have grown and replicated on it’s own. A soft cocoon, a warm plant seed pod. Cells, atoms, eggs, bacteria, cancerous growths or fungi.

The conversation I am having is about body, about femininity, and the tension between heart and head, biology and technology. These soft sculptures embody and elicit fear, self loathing, love, acceptance––all of it processed through the actions of making.
